Visits to India

Dr Ravi Patel Visits the Dang Project

Dr Ravi Patel, a long-standing supporter of AWARE Foundation, visited the Dang project on 14 February 2026, accompanied by Daksha and friends Dr Atul and Jyoti Patel from Mumbai. Their visit began at the refurbished Bal Wadi (Kindergarten) in Zaran village, a transformation made possible through Dr Ravi Patel’s generous donation made in loving memory of his wife, Bhavana. He was brought to tears by the warm welcome, the vibrant building, and the joyful, interactive learning spaces. Spending time with the children, receiving handmade gifts, and witnessing the energy of the classroom gave him a powerful sense of the importance of pre-primary education.

The group then travelled to an un-refurbished Bal Wadi in Burthadi, where the contrast in facilities was striking. Even so, the children’s resilience, enthusiasm, and cheerfulness left a deep impression on Dr Ravi Patel.

They continued to a seasonal hostel supporting 40 children aged 6–14, where they interacted with the children and explored the facilities. Later, over a meal at a women’s cooperative, the group enjoyed authentic Dangi cuisine and learned more about local livelihoods.

A productive meeting followed with the Dang project team, during which Dr Ravi Patel shared thoughtful reflections and engaged in discussion about district-level challenges. Each guest received a ‘Dang Hamper’ filled with local organic products as a gesture of appreciation.

The visit then continued to Kakshala village, where AWARE supports a hostel for 130 children from 17 villages. The children presented powerful performances carrying strong social messages, showcasing both their talent and the confidence they have gained through the programme.
After a full and inspiring day, the group stayed at Mahal Forest Camp Site and enjoyed a guided forest walk the following morning.

Dr Ravi Patel’s Reflections on the Visit

Dr Ravi Patel spoke with great warmth about how well-designed the project is and how effectively it reaches the most vulnerable children in such a challenging region. He shared how impressed he was by the strong study–action link and the scientific approach that underpins the work. He also expressed deep admiration for the dedication of the local team and the simplicity and sincerity with which the operations are run. The refurbished Bal Wadi, he said, stood out as a beautiful testament to Bhavana’s spirit, made even more meaningful by its heartfelt dedication.

Overall, it was a meaningful and inspiring visit that truly highlighted the depth and impact of AWARE’s work across the Dang region. We are deeply grateful for Dr Ravi Patel’s generous donations over the past two years; his support is creating profound change for so many young people and for generations who will follow.
